Hi, I found your tutorial a great starting point, but I am having a little trouble with the .ascx files. How do I set up my project so that I can see the formatting and css styles while I am working in dreamweaver?

Should I just temporarily link the CSS file whilst in dreamweaver and then comment out the link when I export for packaging for upload to my portal?

Best Regards,
James McNess

P.S. and is there any quick way to preview the .ascx file in a browser?

Hi,

The best way is to have DNN running locally on your machine. If you do then you can put your skin's files in the /portals/0/skins/ directory and edit them directly in there. While working on them you can apply the skin to your local DNN and see the changes.

If you don't have DNN running locally then try to go as closer as you can to the result you want while working with the HTML because you can't preview the ASCX files without uploading the skin on your server. Of course if you can FTP files and you know how to setup the connection with your server within Dreamwever then it's not a big deal to have the files on your server updated every time you make some changes. You can do the same thing with a free editor like Notepad++ and a free FTP client like FileZilla.
