(For dotnetnuke 3.x free skins)

  1. Download the main zip from the download page
  2. Extract that zip to your local machine
  3. Now you have a folder with the skin's name… open that folder and you will find a readme.txt or a license.txt and two other folders, one with the name “skins” and one “containers”
  4. Log in to your dotnetnuke site.
  5. Go to Admin > Site Settings and at the bottom of that screen click the upload skin link. – OR – Go to Admin > Skins and mouse over the small actions arrow beside the “Skins” container title. Then click upload Skin. - OR – If you don't have permission to upload skins with the Admin account you have to do it with the Host account. (You can give permission to the Admin account to upload skins from Host > Host Settings > Advanced Settings > Other Settings > Skin Upload Permission: Portal )
  6. In any case after you click the “Upload Skin” the File Upload screen will appear.
  7. Click the Browse button and browse to skin's name folder > skins > skin's name.zip (from the step 3)
  8. Click Add
  9. Click Upload new file
A report from the uploaded Skin package will appear where you can click return and repeat the steps 6-9 to “Upload Container”. The zip with the containers can be found at: skin's name folder > containers > skin's name.zip (from the step 3)

Where are you looking for the "upload skin" link?

With the default DNN settings only the host accounts have rights to upload skins.

If you want to upload the skin as admin, you have to log in as host and set Skin Upload Permission: Portal

Browse: Host Settings > Advanced Settings > Other Settings > Skin Upload Permission: Portal

Vasilis:

Much thanks for all of the information you provide to us DNN newbies!

I have a question.  Do your skins work with DNN 4.0.0?  I tried to install CM2 and everything seemed to work corectly on the install.  When I went back to view them, the preview images could not be found for the skins and containers?

Thanks,

TonyS

Hi TonyS,

My free skins should work with DNN4 without any issues... haven't been tested though but I know that there are no differences in DNN skinning machine from version 3 to 4.

You cannot see the preview images because with some of the free skins I have not included them... sorry for that. I 'll update them asap.

Thanks for your feedback!

Vasilis

I thought I'd just give an update to let you know that the skins do work with DNN4 as far as I can tell. The installation is the same as well as far as I can tell. Thanks.

Hi guys,

Firstly, sorry, im a major nub with DNN and need to learn a little for work purposes (Great..).

Basically, the IT mob designing software for us put us on to DNN and set it up for us and told me to finish it off.. it has the worlds ugliest skin. Ive been attempting to put on new skins such as your own however it never works, it says there is no skin/container in folder. I have been uploading them manually as there is no upload skin option on the admin's skins page.. and i have logged in as host (same problem) and tried your above advice, still no upload skin button.

As i did not set it up i do not know what version they used, they have assured me it is the latest version but even DNN website refers to the same upload skin button. Pls see attached image for reference.

Please help?
